Studio Policy 2024
My Pledge To You
-
I believe that singing lessons should be fun, should challenge you, and should also be a time where you can feel free to explore your voice in a supportive environment. I am here to encourage you, to guide you, and to show you that incredible results are possible if you put in the work!
-
I will provide training in all aspects of the voice including Breathing, Anatomy, Laryngeal Studies, Vocal Registration, Vocal Science, Resonance, Posture and Alignment, Vocal Styles and Song Performance.
-
I will tailor each lesson to match each singer’s specific goals and learning styles, including a more technical or abstract approach based on the student's preferred method. My goal is to empower each singer with an array of tools so that they feel that they can sing anything.
Student & Family Responsibilities
-
Students agree to arrive at each lesson punctually and well-prepared with any sheet music/ accompaniment tracks needed for the lesson. To make good progress, quality practice in between lessons is necessary. Please ask questions about any work that was covered in the lessons so that the student and parents can completely understand the assignments and goals.
-
Parents: If something is happening at home or school that is affecting your child please let me know. The more information I have, the more I can be sensitive to the needs of your child.
-
All students are encouraged to take auditions for school musicals, community theatre shows and professional opportunities. If an opportunity arises, please bring information to the next lesson so that I can help your student prepare.
Tuition & Schedule
*Please note that tuition reserves the weekly time slot, but may not directly correlate with lessons
received if the student does not attend the scheduled lesson times.
-
A flat-rate system is used for tuition. Monthly installments are structured so that regardless of the number of lesson weeks in each month, the tuition remains a flat, predictable amount. The flat monthly tuition rates are based on the number of guaranteed lessons in the calendar year. There will be 42 lessons offered throughout the year, and the weeks where lessons are not held (due to holidays, personal artistic opportunities or teacher illness) will be communicated in advance.
-
In the case that there is a 5th weekly lesson in the month, this has been factored into the flat-rate tuition. Pre-planned absences and holiday breaks have also been factored into the rate and will be communicated well in advance. In the case of teacher illness, a lesson may be cancelled with less than 24 hours notice. A certain number of weeks have been built into the studio calendar to accommodate for teacher illness.
-
Additionally, tuition covers access to the My Music Staff portal.
-
All payments are non-refundable. After the first payment, invoicing and payment will run automatically on the same day. Tuition will be drawn on the 1st each month from the method on file. All automatic payments will be run through My Music Staff and Stripe.
-
In the event that a payment is returned or declined a 48 hour window will be provided to adjust the payment method and resubmit payment. Any payments not received by the 3rd of the month will receive a $20 late fee. Recurring late payments may result in termination of the student’s enrollment.
Cancellation Policy
-
Lessons canceled with under 24 hours notice will not be provided a makeup lesson. Lessons canceled with 24 hours notice will be credited a makeup lesson for that month.
-
There will be one makeup lesson allowed each term. There will be a designated day for makeup lessons. If the student is unable to attend a lesson on this designated day the credit may be forfeited.
-
Makeup lessons do not count as credit for the next month’s tuition.

- If a student would like to cancel lessons for the following term, two weeks written notice must be given before the next term begins.

Music & Materials
-
Each student is responsible for purchasing the required music and materials for lessons. Music will be assigned by me and the student will be expected to have the materials no later than two weeks after the materials have been assigned. Advanced notice will be provided whenever possible.
Commitment
-
When students enroll, they are reserving their place in the studio and committing for the entire term. Terms are outlined as followed:
Fall Term - September through December
Winter Term - January through May
Summer Term - June through August
-
Changes to weekly schedules may be made on a case-by-case basis each month before tuition is due.
-
If the student decides to pause lessons during the course of a term, tuition for the remainder of the term still applies. Alterations to this policy are on a case-by-case basis.
-
Please note that a student's spot will not be guaranteed for the fall term if they were not enrolled in lessons during the summer term.
Photo & Release Form
-
From time to time I use photos and short videos of my students around the studio, on the studio website, or in social media posts. These videos and posts are encouraging to other students and helpful to other teachers. If you do not want your image or your child’s image(s) to be used, please let me know.
-
In general, students love to see their pictures and videos on my website and social media. They find it motivating and exciting to think that others want to know what they are learning. The students are identified only by first name.
*By enrolling and paying tuition for my child or myself in Nicky Phillips’ Vocal studio, I certify that I understand and agree to the studio policies for the 2024 calendar year
